ALFA receives Kenneth K. and Suzanne G. Millholland Endowment award

It is with gratitude that ALFA accepts a $5,000 award from the Kenneth K. and Suzanne G. Millholland Endowment to support our medical case management program. Medical Case Management links a person who has been diagnosed with HIV with a case manager who helps the client receive medical care and medications, and remain in care. Case managers also help clients in a variety of other ways - support in securing housing, emergency food and utilities assistance, transportation to medical appointments, medication adherence counseling and other services. World AIDS Day Commemoration

Each year, December 1st is designated as World AIDS Day. To commemorate the impact of AIDS locally and around the world, ALFA is hosting an event on December 2nd at Conover Station from 6 – 8 p.m. The venue will include a production on HIV/AIDS entitled, “The Last One” produced by James Kellogg of Gastonia as well as a reading of the names of individuals lost to the virus. Dinner is provided at no charge. Attendees are encouraged to wear red in support of HIV/AIDS awareness. The evening will end with a candlelight remembrance ceremony. ALFA’s Holiday Adoption Program is designed to provide gifts for the children of ALFA who are either infected or affected by HIV/AIDS.  Often, it is very difficult for parents, who are living with HIV/AIDS, to afford gifts for their kids this time of year.  When they have to struggle with high medical costs, bills, rent, food, and gas prices, it can be impossible to enjoy the holidays.  Some may have to choose between heat or presents during the season. ALFA Announces Reorganization

The ALFA Board of Directors voted on October 20, 2014 to approve a restructuring of the organization that will allow ALFA to continue to fulfill its mission without replacing the Executive Director who resigned in May. The new management model reassigns responsibilities formerly those of the Executive Director to key ALFA staff.
